Samian Ware Platter

This item of Roman tableware was found at Mancetter. This item of Roman tableware was found at Mancetter. The characteristic glossy appearance was produced by dipping the dish in slip and burnishing it before firing.
This item dates from the first century and was imported from South or Central Gaul. The maker's mark SCOTNS can be clearly seen in the middle of the platter.
